GDPR trädde ikraft den 25 maj 2018 och gäller inom hela EU. Den svenska benämningen av GDPR är ”Dataskyddsförordningen”. Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten har publicerat en svensk översättning av GDPR. Personuppgiftslagen (PUL) har blivit ersatt av GDPR och PUL gäller inte längre i Sverige.
